Wednesday Break With TaylorThyme on BlogTalkRadio (Episode #1 : Wednesday, April 7, 2010, 2:00-3:00pm)
The focus of this episode was on Educating The Family: educating about life, schooling at home, and schooling for nontraditional students. Guest speakers discussed: The Importance of Fathers Talking With Their Sons About Sex, The Homeschooling Mission, and Life of A NonTraditional Student.
UPDATE:Listen to just the segment you want to hear. I’ve created an audio playlist.
Following is a synopsis of the process, an outline of the topics of this first broadcast, and some highlights from the discussion.
This first broadcast was, tentatively, a trial run. I wanted to test the broadcasting control panel and get a feel for how to also use the other tools available while on air, which include tweeting, chatting, starting/stopping pre-recorded audio, and bringing a listener on air. I also had a script outline open in a text document to help me stay on track, with a list of questions to ask the guests.
This looked like a whole lot of juggling and I was a bit nervous!
There were three call-in guests speaking on pre-arranged topics. Each guest speaker had a specific time to call in; the next call guest calling in would be my cue to end the current conversation. I had a little filler conversation ready in case a guest was delayed (heaven forbid!).
A few things I learned:
- Be better prepared.
- Dispense with the heavy breathing! 🙂
- Remember to start talking right after I stop talking in the prerecorded segment (or add a little more music to the end of the recording).
- Make sure I’m already logged into Twitter, so I don’t have to log in after I’ve told the BTR system to send out a tweet.
A few Ooops!!
- Blank space in the audio while I’m trying to get the first caller online.
- The audio of the actual broadcast is louder than the intro music and announcements (which I pre-recorded).
- Trying to bring a caller on air who had only called in to listen.
Thanks To My Guests
Many thanks to my guests who did an excellent job. They agreed to speak on their respective topics on extremely short notice. I appreciate you helping me test the system. Your comments were so “spot on” I’m keeping the episode and sharing it for all the world to hear! (And yes! let’s do a longer segment real soon.)
